What is Self and Family Managed Care (SFMC)?

Can I hire a family member as my caregiver?

As a general rule, no. Under the WRHA program, hiring family members is not allowed except in unique circumstances and with the approval of the Director of Home Care. We can introduce you to vetted, compatible caregivers instead.

What does your service cost?

For private-pay clients, our rate is $33/hour with a 3-hour minimum visit. For SFMC clients, we build a custom plan around your WRHA funding envelope and give you written monthly estimates — the exact rate and scope are confirmed with you in writing before we start.

What happens if my regular caregiver can't come?

We arrange backup coverage as part of your care plan: if your primary caregiver is unavailable, we work to place vetted staff to step in. We'll tell you exactly how our backup roster works for your schedule.

Who handles payroll, taxes and the paperwork?

We manage hiring, payroll, taxes, scheduling and labor compliance, and we prepare the detailed financial reports the WRHA requires from Self & Family Managers — including documentation for their semi-annual reviews.

Do I need a separate bank account?

Yes — the WRHA requires Self & Family Managers to keep SFMC funds in a separate bank account and to submit regular reports. We help you prepare that documentation.
